Local Proverbs -1939

A shut mouth catches no flies.
One swallow never makes a summer.
What's bred in the marrow, comes out through the bones.
Strength is no burden.
Quenched coals are easy to kindle.
The darkest hour is before the dawn.
Fools make feasts and wise men eat them.
It is a long lane that has no turning.
The older the crab tree the more fruit it bears.
Spare the rod and spoil the child.
Bend the rod while it is weak.
A lying man tempts the devil.
Wide will weak, tight will leak.
Kind father for him to be as he is.
Children and fools should not handle sharp tools.
Thinking is bad wit.
Don't believe all you see or half of what you hear.
Don't judge the first story, until you've heard the second story.
He's a chip of the same block.
You can't whistle and eat meal.
Eaten bread is soon forgotten.
More die from overeating than hunger.
Your pocket is your friend.
Truth never chocked a man.
June rain is worth gold.
Evil cannot go through water.
Let very well alone.
Exchange is no robbery.
Never send a fool on an errand.
A bad workman always quarrels with his tools.
